alive-IT can be installed on any platform running Java 5.

We provide installation routines for

  • Windows
  • Linux
  • FreeBSD

Hardware Requirements

The specifications are representing the minimum required setup for the Windows platform. Other platforms may vary due to underlying requirements of the platform itself. Whenever possible, alive-IT should be installed on a dedicated server. In order to accommodate peak processing loads, sufficient equipment is necessary. The following configuration represents minimum requirements:

  • 1 GB RAM, recommended 2 GB or more
  • 1GB Hard-drive space for the application and additional 4 GB Hard-drive space for data, temporary files and logs. We recommend 20 GB or more.
  • Pentium 4 with 2 GHz or comparable processing capacity
  • 100 MBit Network Connection (LAN)

Software Requirements

Server

All software modules necessary for the operation are included in alive-IT except the database management system and, if needed, database clients (especially for Oracle and DB2). Apache Tomcat is provided for the Webserver. An integration of Apache Webserver and IIS (MS Internet Information Server) is possible. Sun Java 5 (JDK 1.5.x) is assumed to be present. The following databases have been tested and validated for use with alive-IT:

  • Oracle Version 9.2, 10
  • MySQL Version 5.x
  • MS SQL Server 2000
  • PostgreSQL 8.x

Clients

A modern web-browser at the client workplace is assumed and is the only requirement to access the alive-IT application over the web. It is recommended that the most recent version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera are installed. The browser must accept cookies, JavaScript must be activated. To display data in Acrobat format, and SVG graphics, free plugins are necessary and can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
