The development of plans for the accomplishment with emergencies is one of the most important tasks of the establishment of a Business Continuity Management. An essential purpose of the BCM process are functioning plans which we distinguish as follows:

Coordination Plans
The Coordination Plans pull together the recovery plans (business / infrastructure / crisis communication) per scenario in a common context.
Purposes
- Definition of a common structure for all plans
- Definition of the interfaces between Business Recovery , Infrastructure Recovery and Crisis Communication
- Description of the interdependences between the plans
- Time management for incident response
Results

Business Recovery Plans
Business Recovery plans contain the necessary manual Work-arounds in a case of failure of a business process and the necessary measures for the resumption.
Purposes
- Description of Work-arounds and alternative procedures
- Supply of tools for manual Work-arounds
- Definition of resumption processes per scenario
- Development of an continuity manual per scenario and organisational unit
Results
- Manual Work-arounds are described
- Forms and other resources are available
- Resumption processes are described
- Per organisational unit and scenario a continuity plan is finished
Infrastructure Recovery Plans
The Infrastructure Recovery Plans describe the commissioning of alternate resources and the necessary measures for the recovery of the services.
Purposes
- Development and documentation of the recovery procedures for different applications, IT services or other services
- Documentation and verification of the implemented precaution measures and resources (e.g., backup procedures)
Results
- Per scenario an Infrastructure Recovery plan exists with all necessary tasks to recover from an incident
- Manual or automatic processes are defined for the regular update of the infrastructure recovery plans
Crisis Communication Plans
The Crisis Communication Plans describes the internal and external communications during and after a crisis.
Purposes
- Regulation of the addressees (who should be informed)
- Definition of the communication purposes (information, instruction...)
- Definition of the communication mediums (phone, fax, email, alarming systems...)
- Definition of the communication processes
Results
- Communication plans exists for the pre-defined scenarios
- The addressees and the individual communication purposes are fixed
- Communication contents are prepared (press releases, forms...)
- The communication mediums and communication processes are defined and are communicated
